Hemm opens in Britannia, Heritage Park holds its vintage and antique sale and Calgary’s Make It Show is back with handmade wares by local artisans.

This month, go shopping for new fitness apparel, a bicycle or vinyl records. Here’s what you need to know about the latest shopping and lifestyle openings, events and sales.

 

Bike and Brew opens in Bridgeland

Part coffee shop and part bike/repair shop, Bike and Brew opened in Bridgeland this past month. The 2,600-square-foot shop offers a wide selection of bicycles from brands like Kona, Apollo, Masi, Simcoe, Del Sol and Cinelli, plus cycling accessories and cycling-friendly lifestyle apparel. There’s also a full-service bike repair shop at the back of the store. In Bike and Brew’s coffee shop area, handmade hemlock fir tables and benches line the front windows, while a modern black and white coffee bar sits nearby. Order a cup of Fratello coffee and some baked goods from Corbeaux Bakehouse.

Designer Stephan Schneider debuts a temporary installation at gravitypope

You may have already come across some of designer Stephan Schneider‘s apparel on the racks at gravitypope before. But now, you can get an even better look at his spring/summer 2017 collection (called “Desperately Seeking Serpentines”) at a temporary, in-store installation that will be on display until the end of May. Click here for more information on the installation.

 

Hemm opens in Britannia

Hemm, previously an online-only activewear shop based in Calgary, has opened a 1,000-square-foot concept store in Britannia. Stop by to shop for fitness apparel like leggings and tank tops from more than 30 brands including Nimble Activewear, Jaggad, Splits59 and Beyond Yoga. You can also pair your new outfits with workout accessories like gym bags by Balsa 201 and Transience.

Heritage Park holds its bi-annual vintage and antiques sale

From April 1 to 9, you can get your hands on beautiful vintage and antique items at Heritage Park’s bi-annual sale. The sale will feature donated items that aren’t being used in the Park, and could include jewellery, toys, home decor and things that can be reclaimed like broken china. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the nine-day event to score some great finds and support the future of Heritage Park and its programs. Click here for more information on the sale.

 

​Make It Show brings local artisans and handmade wares to Calgary

The Make It Show, a popular Canadian craft fair that features handmade items by local artisans, is returning to Calgary. This year’s show will take place from April 7 to 9 in Big Four at Stampede Park. The event will feature homemade goods from more than 175 exhibitors, which include body products from Adorn Infusions, Bro Brick soaps, jewellery by Jennea Frischke Jewelry and children’s apparel from Mini Street Kidswear. Admission is $5. Mona Lisa Artists’ Materials holds its annual spring sale

This year, Mona Lisa Artists’ Materials’ annual spring sale will take place on April 28th and 29th. On those days, the art store’s regularly priced products will be 25 percent off. Stop by to get a deal on writing and drawing utensils, canvases, paint and more.

 

Record Store Day returns on April 22

Show your appreciation for vinyl and local record stores during the annual Record Store Day on April 22nd. To mark the occasion, record stores around the world will be offering special releases and products and holding in-store events and celebrations. Calgary is home to several local record stores, so contact your favourite one to find out if they’re offering any special deals this month.

March 16th marked the much-anticipated arrival of Québec fashion retailer Simons in downtown Calgary. Located in the historic Lancaster Building and TD Square, the 95,000-square-foot store was designed by McKinley Burkart and features colourful murals and artwork by Calgary artists such as Maya Gohill and Chris Cran. Shop for men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes and home decor, then finish your visit with a snack at the in-store Ève Café.

Sport Chek Women opens in CF Chinook Centre

At the beginning of March, CF Chinook Centre welcomed Sport Chek’s first store completely dedicated to women. The bright, 16,000-square-foot store has a huge selection of sport and fitness apparel, shoes, accessories, swimwear and sports bras. Finding items that are the right fit is one of the main focuses here, and there are several electronic stations set up to help you find sports bras and apparel that are the right fit and style. You can also visit the store’s New Balance Stride I.D. Experience Lab to have your stride analyzed and feet scanned to find the best fitting shoes for you. Sport Chek Women also offers activities like meditation and cycling at the in-store Wellness Centre.
