Advertiser FAQ: Best Wedding Services Ballot

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about Avenue’s ballot for the Best Wedding Services in Calgary.

In 2020, we wanted to find a way to support wedding service professionals and our wedding editorial content, while engaging our audience even more. To do that we developed a Best Wedding Services in Calgary ballot to collect submissions and votes from our readers’ favourite businesses and vendors across the city. Last year, more than 15,000 people participated multiple times throughout the course of the ballot. Anyone can participate and we hope that you do so that collectively we can continue to learn about, celebrate and support our local businesses.

The platform we are using allows us to develop advertising opportunities to help leverage that engagement. We’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions about advertising in the ballot here.

Does a business have to advertise in the magazine to advance to voting or be chosen as a winner?

No. No purchase is required to participate in the competition or to win the competition. Our goal is to engage our audience and community partners for input on the best wedding service providers in Calgary.

For interested businesses, we are not shy in telling you that advertising with Avenue is the best way to remind the voters about your business and ask for their votes.

Also, building this competition and developing the content and promotion around it, takes a lot of time and money. We wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of our advertisers.

How does the nomination/voting work?

Readers submit the names of their favourite businesses during our nomination period. Our editorial team reviews the nominations and fact checks them to ensure the names and categories are correct, and then the businesses or individuals with the top nominations are selected to compete for the title of Best Wedding Services in Calgary during our voting period.

How can I promote myself during the voting round?

Our team has put together downloadable assets you can use to promote your business on your social media pages or website during the voting round. There is no obligation to advertise in order to use these materials. You can find them here.

What do I do if I want to advertise?

We are offering advertising opportunities during our voting round, which runs August 3 to 23. You can see an example of these positions here. What are enhanced listings and why would I want one?

Enhanced listings allow you to add an image and/or more text to your business listing to help you stand out from the other businesses and provide additional information about your business to our readers. It also creates a dedicated URL that you can share. You can see an example and what it looks like compared to other listings here.

Why can’t you give the enhanced listings away?

The price of enhanced listings helps us cover the costs of doing this competition, including the production work to put that enhanced listing online.
