Award-Winning Baristas at Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters
You probably know where to get a fantastic cup of coffee in the city. But, if you frequent any of Phil & Sebastian’s locations, you’re probably unaware that national champions have been preparing your cup of joe.
The Canadian National Barista Championships took place on October 20 and October 21 in Vancouver, and this year, Ben Put of Phil & Sebastian was crowned Canada’s national barista champion. Put won the competition using an Ethiopian coffee from the Gedeb village and taught coffee-drinkers how the water the coffee’s brewed with will impact how it tastes.
Phil & Sebastian barista Megan Feniak also competed, coming in fourth in the competition. The coffee company is proud that this is the fourth year in a row that Phil & Sebastian Roasters have had two competitors in the top four. In 2012, Phil & Sebastian barista Jeremy Ho also won the national competition and went on to finish in 9th place at the World Barista Championships.
During the week of November 18, these three barista champions will serve their award-winning espresso-based drinks at Phil & Sebastian’s newest location in Mission, which opens in November.
