Lakeview | Calgary's Best Neighbourhoods 2026

Like a village in the middle of Calgary, Lakeview offers peaceful, neighbourly living in a quiet setting.

Nestled away at the southern end of Crowchild Trail lies the picturesque community of Lakeview. Beautiful homes with manicured lawns rest along streets lined with mature trees. Lakeview feels tucked away from the rest of the city, almost like a small town — even though the community is only a 15-minute drive from downtown.

Unlike new neighbourhoods that are often built around large shopping areas, Lakeview has a quaint shopping plaza. While it doesn’t offer the big-box appeal of other shopping centres, it has everything residents might need, including an IGA, a gas station, a bakery and the local coffee shop, Sierra Café (which regulars know is almost always busy).

The nearby Weaslehead Flats in Glenmore Park allows for easy access to nature. With only 37th Street and Crowchild Trail leading into the area, traffic is kept low — meaning that children can play safely in front yards, neighbours can host block parties and seniors can walk at their own pace.

The engaged community association provides a range of programming, including wine tastings, children’s soccer and a community garden. Neighbourhood pride is palpable, with residents turning out in droves to discuss actions like blanket rezoning, with the goal of preserving Lakeview’s small-town feel. —S.C.

Opportunity for Improvement

Although Lakeview is centrally located for drivers, it’s not that easy to get to for transit users. While previously more than one bus route connected Lakeview to an LRT station, access to the LRT or downtown is now primarily via transit route 66.

Lakeview has easy access to nature offerings, including the Glenmore Reservoir, picnic sites, paved pathways and more. If you walk west, you’ll find yourself in Weaselhead Flats. Located at the mouth of the Elbow River, the natural environmental park boasts enchanting views, hiking trails, wildlife and more. Find an escape from the hustle and bustle with easy park access through the Lakeview community.

Lakeview Community Association

Committed to fostering connection within the neighbourhood, the Lakeview Community Association hosts events and activities year-round. The resident-run association is extremely active, organizing everything from wine nights to casino fundraisers. You can enjoy youth soccer teams and the community gardens when the weather’s warm, and an outdoor community skating rink when it’s not. —R.P.
