The Coen brother’s award-winning 1996 film about murder in Fargo, North Dakota is being reimagined as a mini-series by the FX network and Calgary will stand-in for the American city. We round-up five reasons why we’re excited to welcome the cast and crew to cowtown.

The Cast

The cast is packed with Hollywood heavyweights including Kate Walsh, Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks and Oliver Platt. Welcome famous people, we know you’ll love it here.

Joel and Ethan Coen

The Coen brothers are executive producers on the project which bodes well for the series. It’s their first TV venture but their track record for film speaks volumes- they’ve won six Academy Awards.

The FX Network

The boundary-pushing FX Network is responsible for American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy and The Americans. FX produces edgy TV and doesn’t shy away from violence or sexuality. It’s the perfect home for Fargo’s wood chipper.

Only 10 Episodes

There’s no risk that Fargo the mini-series will drag on too long because it’s only been scheduled for 10 episodes. That’s it that’s all. Sometimes, as the eighth season of Dexter proves, one season is enough.

Martin Freeman

Yes, this adorable British actor deserves his own category. The star of The Hobbit, Sherlock and the original British version of The Office stars as Lester Nygaard, the insurance salesman orginally played by William H. Macy in the feature film.

Fargo begins filming in Calgary in November and is scheduled to air in the spring of 2014.
