The former site of the Alberta Boot Company will never be the same again. A massive hotel and conference centre is being built on the same land where a local company once crafted custom western boots.

The $100 million dollar, 33-storey project, being developed by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts, will be at the corner of 10 Avenue and 5 Street S.W. and it is yet another sign of Calgary’s place a business hub.

The project includes a 360-room Residence Inn by Marriott – the largest Residence Inn in Canada. The all-suite hotel will cater to business travellers and long-stays with full kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas as well as a 24/7 self-serve pantry.

The project also includes a 10,000-square-foot SilverBirch Conference Centre. The centre will have the usual bells and whistles for video conferencing and ergonomic design to make long meetings more comfy. The conference centre will also have a cafe with healthy treats.

Construction will begin in 2014 will an expected opening in 2016.
