The history

This Keith-built home is steeped in history, both in its design and its location. E.V. Keith was a renowned builder and developer whose legacy extends across a number of Calgary neighbourhoods. Keith launched his own business, Keith Construction Company Limited, in 1950 and went on to build signature homes across communities such as Glendale, Highwood, Haysboro, Fairview and more. But he is perhaps best known for the creation of Lake Bonavista, Canada’s very first community to be built around a human-made lake. Developed in the late 1960s, Lake Bonavista is one Calgary’s most sought-after neighbourhoods, with a community lake that spans 52 acres and an adjoining park that covers 25 acres, offering residents access to a variety of water- and land-based activities year-round.

What to love

The backyard of this home is an oasis for nature lovers and gardeners, alike. The flagstone pathway provides a meandering trail throughout the yard, passing by two fish ponds, a tranquil water feature, manicured flower and garden beds and a sizeable, heated greenhouse for year-round growing. Adding to the peaceful outdoor space is a pergola-covered rear deck, a built-in swing for those warm summer nights and a fire pit area for s’more-making fun. Inside the home, the natural appeal continues with a spacious, open-concept layout and wood and stone accents throughout. The downstairs even has its own sauna, so you can treat yourself to a little spa time after a day of gardening.

What to consider

This home is an ideal place to set down roots if you love nature and intend to spend lots of time outside enjoying the garden and other backyard amenities. The community of Lake Bonavista also offers a variety of outdoor draws, including lake access, playing fields and plenty of walking trails.
