We are taking a new approach with our 2021 Best Neighbourhoods content and we’re looking for your help. Our Best Neighbourhood Gems ballot is designed to collect submissions and votes from Calgarians about neighbourhood gems — your favourite places and initiatives — around the city. We hope that you will share them with us and that collectively we can discover and celebrate our Calgary neighbourhoods.
Here is some information about how this ballot project works as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
When is it?
January 18 to March 1.
There are two options for participating in the ballot during this period.
We’re asking readers to submit their entries for favourite spots and projects around the city in a variety of categories. To do that, simply select the category and in the field below “Don’t See Your Favourite?” type in the neighbourhood gem you’d like to nominate
You can also support your favourites by voting for existing entries already submitted on the ballot. The entrants with the top votes will be featured in our Best Neighbourhoods content online and in Avenue‘s September 2021 print issue.
Where is it?
The ballot for both the nomination and voting period is on AvenueCalgary.com/Neighbourhood-Gems-Ballot
How were neighbourhood gems selected for each category?
The list is generated by audience input. If you don’t see your pick on the ballot already, we encourage you to add it. Between January 18 and March 1, 2021, we’re asking Avenue readers to write-in with their favourites in dozens of categories. We’ll be reviewing each entry to make sure they are submitted to the correct category, that the name is correct and that the entry is eligible. Once it is reviewed and approved, it will appear on the ballot.
Why don’t you have a category for _______?
To make this ballot manageable and user-friendly, we narrowed down the list of categories to just less than 40. We selected categories that Avenue‘s audience has shown the most interest in and tried to include categories that would capture a broad range of interests for Calgarians. That said, there are dozens of other categories that we could have included and if we missed something you feel should be included, please tell us. You can submit your ideas on the ballot at the end of the Parks & Rec grouping, and at the end of the City & Community grouping, where it asks “Are there other neighbourhood gems you’d like us to consider?”
What makes a Neighbourhood Gem eligible?
We are looking for the best locations and projects in Calgary so the neighbourhood gem you submit must be located in Calgary.
How will the winners be chosen?
The entries with the most number of votes in a category will be selected as the Best Neighbourhood Gem in that category.
How many times can I vote?
You can vote once per day in each category.
When will I know the results?
The results will be announced in the September 2021 print issue of Avenue as well as on AvenueCalgary.com at the same time.
Why do you ask for my email address?
To vote, you must enter your own email address and it has to be valid. That allows the system we use to eliminate potential voter fraud. We don’t keep or use your email unless you specifically opt-in to receive emails from us and you have the option to unsubscribe from those at any time.Take me back to the ballot
