Culturally Speaking: The Influence of Calgary’s Sandstone Schools on the City’s Growth
Jump into a talk about the history of Calgary’s architecture. Prior to World War I, Calgary built 19 sandstone schools to address growing fire concerns. On February 19, retired architect Darrel G. Babuk will unpack the unique history of these buildings and the urban growth pattern the construction influenced during a two-hour event. This is the latest edition of Heritage Park’s Culturally Speaking presentation series.

Building on the Bow, A Retrospective
Until February 28, revisit one of urban Calgary’s most notable photography projects, Building on the Bow, A Retrospective. The exhibition features 15 large-scale photographs printed as archival carbon images on handmade Japanese washi paper. Originally taken by photographer Steve Speer in 2011, the photos capture the commercial heart of Calgary, highlighting architecture and city building projects in the city. Hosted at the Christine Klassen Gallery, the exhibit is part of this year’s Exposure Photography Festival.
