The history

This home was originally a bungalow that was built in 1954. Over a decade after purchasing it in 2001, the homeowners decided to breathe new life into the house by removing it and building a custom home with Alloy Homes that drew inspiration from elements of the original bungalow. The brand-new custom home took the idea of the original front porch but moved it to the side of the home to create a small courtyard. The redesign allowed for the home to take full advantage of ample natural light and the addition of even more windows. The new layout also gave the home its name as the stylish “Courtyard House.”

What to love

The main floor is seamlessly connected, flowing from one room to the next. The amount of sunlight, the stylish artisan tile and the white oak hardwood give the home a bright and welcoming feel. The central hallway features a stylish one-and-a-half-storey art wall with room to showcase plenty of artwork. The living room is anchored with a white tiled fireplace and extended stone hearth, creating a cozy space to celebrate family moments and holidays. The sleek kitchen is outfitted with two-tone walnut and white cabinets, a 14-foot central island with bar seating and high-end appliances. Access to the courtyard and garden further elevates the space and expands dining and entertaining options.

An open-riser oak staircase leads to the upper floor and the one-of-a-kind primary retreat. The bedroom is flanked with full-height windows that create an open feeling. Ample built-ins, a walk-in closet and a luxurious five-piece ensuite complete the room. Outside, the backyard boasts a spacious deck and has mature trees that help make it an ideal entertaining space.

What to consider

The home captures these design elements through its bright interior, open spaces and use of natural materials, including oak and wood accents. Backed by the award-winning design talents of Alloy Homes and located in the quiet community of St. Andrews Heights, this home is ideal for families or couples to call home.

[Note: A subhead in this story has been changed to reflect that this home was not renovated (it is a new build). The story also previously stated that the idea of the original front porch was recreated at the back of the home, but it was actually recreated on the side of the home.]
