Where it is
2634 3 Ave. N.W.
The location
Before West Hillhurst became the community it is today, the area was home to a farm owned by the Rileys, a prominent pioneer family. Thomas and Georgiana, along with their 10 children, owned nearly 50 acres of land and ran a successful agricultural enterprise called The Riley & Sons. In 1909, following the death of Thomas, the land was left to the City of Calgary.
Riley Park, which exists today in West Hillhurst, is named after the Riley family. The park is a green oasis with a cricket patch, a wading pool, the Senator Patrick Burns Memorial Rock Garden and lush open spaces. It’s a short five-minute drive from this home’s location.
