1. Yann Haute Patisserie

Yann Blanchard is known for his multi-flavoured macarons – a dozen flavours at any given time – but his pains au chocolat and his simple croissants are a perfectly flaky and decadent way to start the day. Plan to take them away because there are no dine-in facilities. -John Gilchrist

2. Manuel Latruwe

The almond croissants and cinnamon buns make a fine early morning repast, but it’s hard not to be tempted by Manuel Latruwe’s pastries – the eclairs, the sacher tort, the opera cake. Admire them as you enjoy your pastry with an excellent cup of coffee, or perhaps take one to go for lunch. -J.G.

3. Ptisserie du Soleil

Breakfast beignets, scones and banana bread French toast lead the morning brigade at this French bakery and caf. Or keep it simple with toast made from fresh-baked bread. -J.G.
