I’m all about a leisurely lunch when it’s appropriate but let’s face it, few of us can spare two hours during the day to linger over a fine midday meal. But that doesn’t mean you should suffer through a sub-par meal. These six restaurants will you up a fast meal that’s so much better than fast food.

Balo Vietnamese

This Vietnamese restaurant in the Beltline serves up some of the best pho in the city, with its robustly flavourful broth, tender sliced beef and bright, fresh toppings. If pho’s not your thing, there are plenty of options on the Thai- and Korean-influenced menu.

Bite

For dine-in or takeout, this boutique grocer, deli and caf offers a wide variety of options including sushi, hot entrees, sandwiches and salads. There’s also an espresso bar and a good selection of baking if you’re just up for coffee and an afternoon sweet treat.

Shiki Menya

This super-popular ramen restaurant in Bridgeland is a great choice for a casual lunch to sample the city’s hottest food trend. Get there by 11 a.m. or after 1 p.m. to avoid the inevitable lineup (or it won’t be quick). And maybe don’t wear your best silk blouse.

Tazza Deli and Grill

When the patio opens at this Middle Eastern deli, you can enjoy shawarmas in the midday sunshine. Or consider having Tazza cater your office lunch – the wrap trays and baklava are always a hit.
