1. Blue Star Diner

Standard favourites and inventive creations, like its eponymous breakfast burrito, all made with lots of local ingredients, have people lining up at this Bridgeland spot. Kudos to the staff who manage the lineup as efficiently as possible while making sure hungry diners at least have coffee while they wait. -Gwendolyn Richards

2. OEB

Use your time waiting for a table at this perennial favourite to decide what to order from the extensive menu that covers all the bases for every breakfast craving. Even standard fare gets a twist, like porchetta eggs Benny and a French-toast trifle. -G.R.

3. Galaxie Diner

A small spot with large portions of diner-inspired dishes, it’s no wonder there’s a lineup. (Don’t worry, there’s coffee for the wait.) The first bites of the huevos rancheros or smoked meat hash (or smoked meat stuffed into an omelette) make it worthwhile. -G.R.
