What began in 2019 as a small restaurant in Bow Valley Square’s food court, serving up Korean mixed rice bowls to hungry lunchtime customers, has evolved into the popular local franchise, Hankki. After opening a second location, Hankki added more Korean street foods to the menu, including the much-craved Korean corn dogs.
Hankki has since expanded to 12 locations across Alberta and a food truck. Despite its expansion, Hankki still focuses on fast meals made with real, fresh and flavourful ingredients — and giving back to the community. Its corn dog is the perfect introduction to Korean street food. Test drive new-to-you Korean flavours on a familiar medium.

The Batter
“Corn dog” is a bit of a misnomer — the batter is actually made with a mix of rice flour and wheat flour, then fried until golden and crisp. The rice flour gives the batter a delightful chewiness that you won’t find in a regular corn dog. There’s also a slight crunch on the outside that makes these Korean corn dogs a whole new experience.
The Filling
You can get the Korean corn dog with a variety of different fillings. The classic is a hot dog made with a mixture of beef and chicken, but you can also try one with either half hot dog and half mozzarella cheese, full mozzarella or a full hot dog wrapped in cheddar cheese.
The Toppings
Top your dog off with a selection of garnishes. The most extravagant is the “Ugly Potato,” (shown here) where cubes of potato are embedded in the batter before frying. Afterwards, add a dollop of one of a variety of sauces like mustard, ketchup, spicy mayo, honey butter, sweet chili and more. For a true Korean experience, opt for the sugar sprinkle (it may sound strange, but, trust us — it’s a must try).
