A Bright Idea: Ion Lamp Set

Old-timey lighting never looked so modern

Adding to our current obsession with all things schoolhouse is the Ion Lamp Set ($135) by Schoolhouse Electric from The Uncommons in Inglewood. Inspired by the original design Thomas Edison used to test the first light bulb, this fully modernized fixture is built to exacting standards in Portland, Ore. The lamp is meant to sit on a surface with the bulb upright, giving an ambient candle-like glow thanks to the Edison Marconi bulb included in the set.

The porcelain-glazed base, khaki twisted cloth cord and Bakelight plug all add to the vintage look. Place this lamp on a side table or a carefully curated bookshelf and start Instagraming – you’ll be the envy of your followers. Be sure to use an old-timey filter for the full 19th-century effect.
