It’s the time of year to shop for all things handmade. The arts and crafts markets in and around Calgary have already started, meaning now’s the time to get a head start on your Christmas shopping. You can find the perfect gift for everyone on your list from now until mid-December.

Curated Fall Market

The Curated Fall Market returns to Calgary from October 4 to 5. The market features 70 vendors, not to mention food trucks and entertainment.

Ujamaa Grandmas Bags, Babies and Beyond

Ujamaa Grandmas holds its annual fall sale in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports organizations dedicated to helping people in Africa who are affected by HIV and AIDS. The grandmas are selling handmade purses, accessories, decor items and toys. If you go home with nothing else, get a felted bag — it’s what the group is known for.

Vintage & Vines Country Market

The Vintage & Vines Country Market is at the Livestock Pavilion Ag Society Grounds in Strathmore. Shop for a range of vintage and handmade items from local vendors such as glasswork, vintage furniture, home decor and art.

State of Art Society Fall Show and Sale

This annual event includes 17 local artists selling their pieces including paintings, glassworks, sculptures, jewellery, woodwork and more. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Cost: Fundraising with proceeds going to Art FUNdamentals program with the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta.

The Fibre Shindig

This craft show is dedicated to all the knitters, crocheters and felters in Calgary. Stop by the Fibre Shindig and buy yarn, beads and buttons for all your fibre-focused projects. There will also be items like ceramics, fibre tools and jewellery. Paid entry includes a raffle ticket for door prizes.

Beacon Original Art Annual Fall Exhibition and Sale

Beacon Original Art is holding its 10th annual fall art sale where local artists display and sell their paintings, photography, ceramics, sculptures and more. More than 30 artists will be at the event, so don’t miss the chance to meet your favourites.

Calyx Distinctive Arts Semi-Annual Art Exhibition and Sale

This two-day art exhibition and sale showcases work by more than 30 different artists each day. Now in its 38th year, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Palette Fine Art Show and Sale

Pick out a new piece of artwork for your home at this show and sale put on by the Calgary Community Painters Society. While you’re there, be sure to check out the “Wall if Minis” – a selection of small paintings made with the theme of Autumn. The art show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bearspaw Fall & Christmas Market

This market has offered fall and Christmas goodies to the community for the last 37 years. This year, more than 90 vendors are selling various handmade items. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Pioneer Holiday Market

The Pioneer on Stephen Avenue is launching its first ever holiday market at the end of October and beginning of November. Local vendors will be selling jewellery, art, food, clothing and more. They’ll be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Airdrie Christmas Show

Don’t miss the ninth annual Airdrie Christmas Show. The two-day show runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Antique Central at the Hangar Flight Museum

This unique event will have shopping, wine and airplanes! Come in and shop a 15,000-square-feet multi level venue where there will be local vendors, a photo booth, some wine and cocktails available for purchase and more. Admission includes entrance to the museum.

Sublime True Craft Market

The Sublime True Craft Market, co-hosted by Wordfest, takes place at Memorial Park Library on November 1 and 2. This curated market handpicks their vendors and this edition will include textiles, ceramics, fine art and other artisan goods. Check this market out from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Peace By Piece Christmas Market

This is the fourth year the Peace By Piece Christmas Market has taken place and it’s a great spot to do some holiday shopping. This year’s vendors will be offering bath bombs, homemade preserves, jewellery, mittens, clay art and more. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are taking donations for the Interfaith Food Bank.

Chestermere Christmas Craft Sale 

Shoppers have been visiting this annual market since 1993, with Crazy4Crafts running it since 2010. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to meet the artisans and pick up some Christmas gifts.

Crossfield Christmas Market

Visit this annual Christmas market in Crossfield to do some shopping for the holidays. New this year is a second location for the market at W.G. Murdoch High School. Both will be operating at the same time so be sure to make time for both. There will be more than 200 vendors, including food vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a donation for the Food Bank.

TTMAC Holiday Market

Not-for-profit organization Twins, Triplets and More Association of Calgary (TTMAC) hosts its fifth annual holiday market this year. The group supports families with (or expecting) multi-birth children with programs like workshops and peer-to-peer chat. Select vendors include Nicole’s Reading Nook, Twin Timbers Rustic Design, Grandma Snuggles and food ware items from Pampered Chef.

Springbank Christmas Market

This festive craft sale is a great spot to shop for handmade crafts and artwork. You’ll find items like holiday ornaments, birdhouses, photography, bath products, candles, stone carvings and more. Saturday hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Christmas in the Country Art Sale

Visit the historic Leighton house for two weekends of art sales. With more than 100 artists and 2000 art pieces, including paintings, decorations, treats and more, you’ll surely find something unique for that special someone. Parking and admission are free and they’ll also be giving away complimentary holiday treats. This market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both weekends.

Mount Pleasant Potters’ Guild Fall Pottery Market

Festival of Crafts

More than 230 artisans from across Canada convene at Stampede Park to sell their gorgeous handmade goods at the Festival of Crafts. Millarville Christmas Market

Back for a 31st year, this Christmas market is sure to give you all the seasonal feelings. Visit the vendors set up indoors and outdoors to find baked goods and handmade gifts such as pottery, stained glass pieces, woodworking, apparel and jewellery. You can also spend the day enjoying hay rides, roasted chestnuts, carolers and music. Be sure to take your kids for a photo with Santa too. 27th Annual Christmas Fair

Glamorgan Community Association is hosting its annual Christmas fair to showcase local vendors. It is selling art, spices, soaps, cards, crafts and other goods. The fair runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Heritage Weavers and Spinners Annual Fall Sale

The Group Art Society of Calgary’s Fall Show and Sale

Contextural Christmas Artisan Sale

Light Up Okotoks Christmas Market

Downtown Okotoks comes alive during the Light Up Okotoks Christmas Market. The market itself is held at the Elks Lodge while several downtown streets will be closed to cars so outdoor family fun can take place. There is a Sugar Shack, fire pits and wagon rides, so after you’re done in the market, head outside on the Friday and check out all the events.

Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market

This market is taking place over three weekends starting in mid-November and running into December. Banff Christmas Market

Make a weekend getaway out to this European-inspired market in Banff. In addition to shopping for handmade gifts, there are activities such as an opening ceremony, children’s storytime, Santa visits, sleigh rides and more throughout both weekends, so be sure to check the schedule of events. Plus, make sure you check out Park Distillery’s Outdoor Lounge Bar to get some mulled wine or build your own spiked hot chocolate.

Shawnessy Christmas Craft Fair

Canmore Christmas Artisans’ Market

In mid-November, more than 85 local artisans are offering paintings, photography, pottery, apparel, food, furniture and more at this Canmore market. There are also be food vendors. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Bragg Creek Artisans 42nd Annual Show & Sale

Escape the city for your arts and crafts shopping. More than 65 local artisans showcase their work at this sale, which is back for its 42nd year. This market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the whole weekend.

Calgary Night Market Holiday Shopping Series

In November and December, the Calgary Night Market heads indoors for its holiday shopping series. On five different nights from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., the market will host more than 40 vendors offering items like ornaments, apparel, jewellery and baked goods. Expect to see live entertainment and a DJ at the markets as well.

Dalhousie Christmas Craft Fairs

Because of popular demand, this Christmas market has extended into an extra night of shopping. On Friday, the association will open their doors for their first ever Christmas night market. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., you can shop the night away while enjoying a complimentary hot beverage such as hot chocolate or coffee. But you’ll want to come back the next day, because they are having different vendors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parking is free for this event.

Authentically Indigenous Holiday Craft Show & Marketplace

Shop for items like art, jewellery, beadwork, home decor, dreamcatchers and baked goods made by Indigenous artists and businesses at the holiday edition of the Authentically Indigenous Craft Show. This is the fifth year the market has taken place and there will be more than 30 vendors to check out. Bring your kids to the market with you to meet Santa or make some crafts in the children’s activity area.

Canyon Meadows Christmas Market

6th Annual Bearspaw Christmas Market

This popular market now extends over two days. Kids can visit Santa for a photo op for a small donation that goes to a local charity. A portion of your admission fee goes to the Calgary Food Bank and includes a chance to win $25 towards shopping on site.

The Waldorf Faire & Artisan Market

4th Annual Christmas Market

New this year is Kid’s Lane, which encourages young entrepreneurs to sell their creations.

Fort Calgary Holiday Artisan’s Fair

Fort Calgary holds a holiday artisan fair with more than 60 local vendors offering jewellery, artwork, glasswork and more. This popular event now extends over the last full weekend in November from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Be sure to check out the pop-up cafe and artisan demos. If you’re looking to extend the festivities into the evening, it also has an open bar and tickets available for purchase to its Black and White Movie Night.

This is probably the most nerdy holiday market you’ll stumble upon all season, and that’s a good thing. This holiday market is presented by the team behind the Calgary Expo, so expect all your geeky shopping and art needs to be met. Local retailers, vendors and artists sell comics, toys, collectibles and art. If you want, you can even wear a costume.

Make It! Holiday Market

If it’s handmade goods you’re looking for, the Make It! market is a must-visit. There will be tonnes of local vendors at this holiday market, selling everything from handmade treats to baby items to home decor. Shop for clothes from Ole Originals, jewellery from Adorned, sweets from Natural Kitchen Delights and luxurious soaps from Suntree Soaps.
