It’s the time of year to shop for all things handmade. The arts and crafts markets in and around Calgary have already started, meaning now’s the time to get a head start on your Christmas shopping. You can find the perfect gift for everyone on your list from now until mid-December.

Markets In October

Curated Fall Market

The Curated Fall Market returns to Calgary from October 5 to 6. The market will feature 70 vendors, not to mention food trucks and entertainment.

Beacon Original Art Annual Fall Exhibition and Sale

Beacon Original Art is holding its annual fall art sale over two days. Local artists will be there displaying and selling their paintings, photography, ceramics, sculptures and more. More than 20 different artists will be at the event each day, so don’t miss the chance to meet your favourites.

When: October 13 to 14, 2018

Art From the Unknown

Premier Rachel Notley welcomes over 70 local emerging artists to exhibit and sell works at the McDougall Centre over a weekend in October. An “emerging artist” is defined as any artist whose primary income doesn’t come from selling their work, so this is a great opportunity to find a piece by an undiscovered talent. Admission is free and 100% of proceeds go directly to the artists.

Ujamaa Grandmas Bags, Babies and Beyond

Ujamaa Grandmas holds its annual fall sale in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports organizations dedicated to helping people in Africa who are affected by HIV and AIDS. The grandmas are selling handmade purses, accessories, decor items and toys. If you go home with nothing else, get a felted bag — it’s what the group is known for.

Vintage & Vines Country Market

This year, the Vintage & Vines Country Market is being hosted at the Livestock Pavilion Ag Society Grounds in Strathmore. Shop for a range of vintage and handmade items from local vendors such as glasswork, vintage furniture, home decor and art.

Bearspaw Fall & Christmas Market

This market has offered fall and Christmas goodies to the community for the last 36 years. This year, there will be more than 90 vendors selling various handmade items. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Fibre Shindig

This craft show is dedicated to all the knitters, crocheters and felters in Calgary. Stop by the Fibre Shindig and buy yarn, beads and buttons for all your fibre-focused projects. There will also be items like ceramics, fibre tools and jewellery.

Calyx Distinctive Arts Semi-Annual Art Exhibition and Sale

This two-day art exhibition and sale showcases work by more than 30 different artists each day. Now in its 36th year, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: Free admission

Palette Fine Art Show and Sale

Pick out a new piece of artwork for your home at this show and sale put on by the Calgary Community Painters Society. While you’re there, be sure to check out the two mosaic paintings created through a group art project called Mosaic For a Cause. The project saw 50 local artists contribute to the recreation of two Van Gogh paintings. You can bid on these mosaic paintings at a silent auction that will see all of the proceeds donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association. The art show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Markets In November

Festival of Crafts

More than 250 artisans from across Canada convene at Stampede Park to sell their gorgeous handmade goods at the Festival of Crafts. The market showcases work by artists, artisans and designers — you’ll be able to find clothing, food products, artwork, glassware, bath products and much more for everyone on your Christmas list.

Airdrie Christmas Show 2018

Don’t miss the eighth annual Airdrie Christmas Show. The two-day show runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Calgary Night Market Holiday Shopping Series

In November and December, the Calgary Night Market heads indoors for its holiday shopping series. On five different nights from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., the market will host more than 40 vendors offering items like ornaments, apparel, jewellery and baked goods. Expect to see live entertainment and a DJ at the markets as well.

Chestermere Christmas Craft Sale 

Shoppers have been visiting this annual market since 1993, with Crazy4Crafts running it since 2010. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to meet the artisans and pick up some Christmas gifts.

Crossfield Christmas Market

Visit this annual Christmas market in Crossfield to do some shopping for the holidays. There will be more than 100 vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a donation for the Food Bank as well.

Peace By Piece Christmas Market

This is the third year that the Peace By Piece Christmas Market has taken place and it’s a great spot to do some holiday shopping. This year’s vendors will be offering bath bombs, homemade preserves, jewellery, mittens, clay art and more. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

McKenzie Towne Christmas Craft Fair

Start your holiday shopping early at the McKenzie Towne Christmas Craft Fair. There will be 30 vendors in the Towne Hall gymnasium selling locally made items ranging from jewellery to beauty products to crocheted items. The Kicking Donkey Taco Truck will also be at the market in case you get hungry while shopping. The one-day market runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Springbank Christmas Market

Mount Pleasant Potters’ Guild Fall Sale

This non-profit guild is holding its fall pottery sale on November 4. The locally-made wares support workshops, lectures, the purchase of new equipment and scholarships. Buy something beautiful and unique and support local artisans in the process.

Millarville Christmas Market

Back for a 30th year, this Christmas market is sure to give you all the seasonal feelings. Visit the vendors set up indoors and outdoors to find baked goods and handmade gifts such as pottery, stained glass pieces, woodworking, apparel and jewellery. You can also spend the day enjoying hay rides, roasted chestnuts, carolers, music and glass blowing demonstrations. Be sure to take your kids for a photo with Santa too. It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Heritage Weavers and Spinners Annual Fall Sale

The Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild offers just one fibre arts sale per year at its Artpoint studio in Inglewood. Browse a selection of warm, locally-made garments and learn from the pros with demos done throughout the event. With temperatures dropping and Christmas around the corner, this may be the place to find a snuggly gift for someone special.

Okotoks Christmas Market

More than 175 artisans will be on-site for this annual curated Christmas market in Okotoks. There will be jewellery, apparel, baked goods, artwork, bath products and much more at this curated market. Plus, don’t miss out on free activities for children, caroling by the Foothills Philharmonic Chorus and photos with Santa. The market’s open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Southern Alberta Art Alliance 2018 Fall Art Show and Sale

Decorate your home with a new piece of art from the Southern Alberta Art Alliance. At their fall show, you will find locally made pieces in a range of mediums. There is free parking at the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Group Art Society of Calgary’s Fall Show and Sale

This show and sale is all about paintings. In addition to displaying and selling them, The Group will also give away an original work by Parin Meghani and showcase a live painting demonstration by Colin Bell. Parking is free and you can attend any time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fort Calgary Holiday Artisan’s Fair

After holding a 10 a.m. Remembrance Day ceremony in its Burnswest Theatre, Fort Calgary will be holding a holiday artisan fair with more than 60 local vendors offering jewellery, artwork, glasswork and more from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Art Market Art & Craft Sale

This is one of the biggest art and craft sales in the city and you’ll find great gifts here that you won’t find at any other market. There will be around 200 artisans from across Canada, which means you can pick up anything from jigsaw puzzles by Calgary-based StumpCraft to pajamas from Toronto-based This is J. Stop by on Thursday or Friday night to take advantage of two for one admission.

Contextural Christmas Artisan Sale

Contextural is a fibre arts collective based in Calgary. Using textiles, they create artisan items including pillows, tea towels and table linens, clothing and accessories and original art. At this sale, they’ll be selling works from across the spectrum and offering Christmas decor and ornaments to help get ready for the holiday season.

Crestmont Christmas Market

Get a head start on your holiday shopping at this weekend Christmas market. The Crestmont Christmas Market will feature jewellery, woodworking pieces, artwork and more. The market runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Light Up Okotoks Christmas Market

Downtown Okotoks comes alive during the Light Up Okotoks Christmas Market. The market itself is held at the Elks Lodge while several downtown streets will be closed to cars so outdoor family fun can take place. Charitable components of the event include donations for the Okotoks and Veterans food banks, a charity barbecue for the fire department and several others.

Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market

This market is taking place over three weekends starting in mid-November and running into December. Find imported and handmade items that are perfect for your loved ones at the indoor and outdoor venues. More than 300 vendors are on-site and there will also be live music performances and entertainment.

Acadia Christmas Market

This free market in Acadia will include vendors selling knitting, crocheting, canning and other kinds of homemade items for purchase. It runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Balzac Christmas Market

Mahogany Christmas Market

Browse over 50 vendors including amusing oddities like The Balloon Garage and My Mommy Drinks Wine at this one-day market in southeast Calgary. Live music will be performed by the Sonata School of Music and the first 100 guests to arrive receive a swag-filled goodie bag.

Get your holiday shopping done at this market by the New Brighton Residents Association, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 17. Santa will also be at the market, so keep an eye out for him.

Shawnessy Christmas Craft Fair

This one-day Christmas craft fair is filling two floors with more than 30 vendors you can shop from. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TTMAC Holiday Market

Not-for-profit organization Twins, Triplets and More Association of Calgary (TTMAC) hosts its fourth annual holiday market this year with over 30 vendors. The group supports families with (or expecting) multi-birth children with programs like workshops and peer-to-peer chat. Select vendors include Creepy Creatures Calgary, Twin Timbers Rustic Design, Sweet Pea Vintage and food from Dogzilla.

Canmore Christmas Artisans’ Market

In mid-November, more than 85 local artisans will be offering paintings, photography, pottery, apparel, food, furniture and more at this Canmore market. There will also be food vendors. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Cost: $3 admission. The admission fee goes towards the Canmore Preschool Society.

Bragg Creek Artisans Christmas Sale

Escape the city for your arts and crafts shopping. More than 65 local artisans showcase their work at this sale, which is back for its 41st year. There will also be lunch and snacks served in the cafe. This market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the whole weekend.

Handmade Here Collective Boutique Christmas Sale

Lake Bonavista Christmas Craft Fair

Authentically Indigenous Holiday Craft Show & Marketplace

Shop for items like art, jewellery, beadwork, home decor, dreamcatchers and baked goods made by Indigenous artists and businesses at the holiday edition of the Authentically Indigenous Craft Show. This is the fourth year the market has taken place and there will be more than 30 vendors to check out. Bring your kids to the market with you to meet Santa or make some crafts in the children’s activity area.

Azuridge Christmas Market

Head to the beautiful Azuridge Estate Hotel in Priddis to do your Christmas shopping at this one-day market. Now in its third year, the market will feature more than 40 Alberta vendors, drinks and food samples, and the chance to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cochrane Christmas Market

Shop jewellery, home decor, artwork, apparel and more from 100+ vendors at the Cochrane Christmas Market. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring a donation for the Food Bank.

Banff Christmas Market

Make a weekend getaway out of this European-inspired market in Banff. In addition to shopping for handmade gifts, there will be activities such as an opening ceremony, children’s storytime, Santa visits, sleigh rides and more throughout the weekend. Plus, make sure you check out Park Distillery’s Outdoor Lounge Bar to get some mulled wine or build your own spiked hot chocolate.

Curated Winter Market

The Curated Winter Market returns to Calgary from November 23 to 24. The market will feature 70 vendors that you can shop from, as well as entertainment and food trucks for for when you get hungry.

25th Annual Blessed Cardinal Newman Christmas Market

This market, which is held at a local elementary/junior high school, will have more than 100 vendors and live music to listen to while you shop. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

33rd Annual Cochrane Lioness Christmas Craft Fair

Over 70 vendors will showcase handmade wares at this enduring craft fair in Cochrane. Shoppers can enjoy treats from Mrs. Claus herself and browse a selection of Christmas cakes made the Lionesses themselves. This market runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Canyon Meadows Christmas Market

The second annual Canyon Meadows Christmas Market will feature crafters, artisans and other home-based businesses from the surrounding neighbourhood. Enjoy a complimentary cup of cider while you browse items including crochet, doll clothes, ornaments, handmade toques, stationary and more. This market runs noon to 4 p.m.

Crazy4Crafts Bearspaw Christmas Market

Browse over 100 local artisan vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at this market. A portion of your admission fee goes to the Calgary Food Bank and includes a chance to win $25 towards shopping on site. Kids can visit Santa for a photo op for $5, with those proceeds going to the Tails to Tell rescue shelter.

Distinctly Nanton Christmas Market

Its old-world charm makes Nanton the perfect destination to shop for handmade gifts. The Distinctly Nanton Christmas Market, which will have a concession, takes place during Nanton Lights the Way.

Lakeview Christmas Market

This market in Southwest Calgary runs one day only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy unique handmade gifts, delicious homemade treats, bake sale goodies, raffles and refreshments. Food bank donations will be accepted throughout the day.

Lincoln Park Christmas Market

This market includes crafty offerings like knitting, handmade cards and baking, plus non-craft vendors like Scentsy and Epicure. Donations will also be collected for the Inter-Faith Food Bank during the market’s hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring cash as some vendors won’t be able to accept card and there will be no ATM on site.

Little Modern Market

Rocky Ridge Ranch Homeowner’s Association Christmas Market

The Rocky Ridge Ranch Homeowner Associations (RRHA)’s Christmas Market occurs this year on the last Sunday of November from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors range in specialty from jewellery to baked goods and knitted items to terrariums.

Bring the whole family down to Kenneth D. Taylor School to shop for holiday wreaths, children’s books, bath products, baked goods and more at this Christmas market. There will even be a Tuck Shop with snacks in case you get hungry. The market is also collecting Calgary Food Bank donations.

Splash Art Christmas Market

Granary Road Christmas Market

Venture just outside the city limits to spend a day at the Granary Road attraction in the Foothills. While the learning park area is subject to admission, this free public market is open to all and includes holiday family activities like wagon rides, meeting Mr. and Mrs. Claus and getting your picture taken under the mistletoe with an alpaca. Over 50 vendors will be on site for your perusal.

Saskatoon Farm Second Annual Holiday Market

Around 30 minutes south of Calgary lies the Saskatoon Farm. While the name may be confusing, its second annual holiday market is a delightful one. It features over 100 vendors categorized as vintage, handmade and locally sourced. Music and other entertainment will keep the kids busy and there are plenty of locally made baked goods and hot beverages to stop you from dropping while you shop.
