DSW Opens in Calgary
Designer Shoe Warehouse opens mega stores at CrossIron Mills and Sunridge Mall.
In spring 2014, Designer Shoe Warehouse closed a deal that gave it 49 per cent ownership in Canada’s largest footwear and accessories retailer, Town Shoes. With that came an opportunity to get into the Canadian market. The first Canadian DSWs opened in Ontario in 2014 and now western Canada gets its first stores.
In Calgary, the CrossIron Mills location opens March 26 with Sunridge Mall opening its location on April 4.
The self-serve warehouse layout will be familiar, particularly if you shop at other stores owned by Town Shoes including The Shoe Company and Shoe Warehouse. There are rows and rows of boots, sandals, heels, athletic shoes. Display pairs are perched atop a stack of boxes with all of the available sizes. Staff are there to help and maintain order in the store, but you essentially grab your own boxes of shoes and find a bench to try them all on.
The difference between DSW and other stores with the same format is size. DSW stores are 20,000 square feet of footwear (and handbags) for men, women and children that add up to inventory of more then 22,000 pairs.
The designer part of the shoe emporium is in the brands it carries. Town Shoes brands are on the shelves along with Nine West, Ralph Lauren, Cole Haan, Clarks, Converse, Nike, Lacoste, Coach and more.
