Calgary artist Kristen Scharf has always loved a bold, statement jewellery piece, but it wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic that she went all in on creating a jewellery brand of her own. In 2020, she established Combinist Goods and launched her first set of funky acrylic earrings called the Lad. Today, the Lad is still the brand’s most popular item and is now sold in more than 30 different colour variations.
Along with earrings, Combinist Goods offers bracelets, rings and hair accessories that combine curvy abstract shapes and playful colour combinations. Handcrafted with lightweight plastic, acrylic and hypoallergenic stainless steel, the jewellery is crafted to be an everyday statement piece.
“I’ve always gravitated towards statement jewellery because [it] doesn’t matter how plain your dress is or what size you’re at, it can just complete the look,” says Scharf.
The brand’s eye-catching Stretch ring was named a 2025 Etsy Design Award finalist. Most recently, Scharf collaborated with Calgary-based design brand Mezzaluna Studio on a series of modern acrylic Christmas tree ornaments.
