The Detox Market Comes to Calgary

On the quest to a healthier life, you may be watching what’s going into your mouth – but you may want to consider what’s going onto your skin.

Many of our favourite skin care and beauty lines are full of not-so-natural chemicals that can actually be pretty rough on the body. While we aren’t suggesting you get rid of all your favourite beauty products, there may be room in your routine for some toxin-free goodies.

Now through the end of March (with the possibility of permanent residency) you’ll find the best in organic skin care and beauty items at The Detox Market within the H Project section at Holt Renfrew. The eco-friendly products are carefully curated from far and wide to include great Canadian, American and international organic brands.

A few standout brands include organic skincare and perfumes from Toronto-based Province Apothecary, organic face oils from New York City-based Olie Biologique, high-potency serums from California brand Odacit, cosmetics from Finnish company Kide, organic lip balms from Hurraw! and home care products like pillow mists and room scents from the Parisian brand Pure Provence.

The company takes purity in products seriously – co-founder Valrie Grandury is a breast cancer survivor and sought out to detoxify her whole life.

All products are rigorously tested and researched before hitting the shelves. “We really feel like we are showcasing the best of the best,” says The Detox Market’s sale and marketing manager Laura Townsend.

The company is also as focused on finding brands that are as attractive as they are eco. “Lots of times organic products are really organic looking,” says Townsend. “The feeling (of our products) is like Dior or Chanel, but the difference is that there is zero toxicity in it, so you’re still getting that high-end brand but in a more natural way,” she says.
