It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on 17th Ave!
The retail and entertainment district’s holiday event, 17th Days of Christmas, features next-level, holly jolly events on Calgary’s favourite street from December 1 to 17. Take in classic Christmas movies on the big screen in Tomkins Park, listen to local bands rocking out festive tunes at venues along the avenue, participate in a 17-day virtual advent calendar complete with amazing deals, take pictures with Santa and his Christmas alpacas (the reindeer are currently busy prepping for the big day) and so much more! Plus, it’s all free!
Feel festive with favourite holiday movie
Tomkins Park will transform into a winter wonderland on December 1, complete with dazzling lights and festive programming. 17th Days of Christmas kicks off with four days of Christmas movie classics showcased on a big screen that are sure to get you in the holiday spirit. There are matinees taking place on Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. and the December 4 screening will also feature a pre-show holiday sing-a-long. Next week, movies in the park take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday and at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday. Don’t be surprised if some of your favourite holiday characters make an appearance as well.
Attend some jolly mingling events
There will also be two holiday-themed pub crawls taking place during 17th Days of Christmas. The Jingle Mingle takes place December 10 and the Single Jingle Mingle will happen December 17. Both pub crawls run from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include stops at five different venues, each with drink and food offers and specially curated live festive performances. The Single Jingle Mingle is the perfect opportunity for merriment with old friends and new, and there’s the potential to find someone to kiss under the mistletoe. Both pub crawls are open to anyone 18 and older — tacky Christmas regalia is highly encouraged.
Don’t miss Santa Claus — and more!
And what holiday event is complete without a visit from the big guy himself? Mr. Claus will be in the park for pictures on December 3, 10, 11 and 17 starting at 2 p.m. He will be joined by a few special guests including the Grinch, a pair of Christmas alpacas, some festive elf helpers and more.
During the 17 days, you can also find daily deals on a virtual advent calendar, complete with amazing one-day-only sales, gift card promotions and more, brought to you by some of your favourite 17th Ave businesses!
