Deane House’s Rosé and Croquet Garden Party Returns for Its Third Year

What began as a garden party to welcome the YW Calgary Hub to Inglewood has become an annual celebration of the support the YW Calgary provides year-round.

“A legacy of hope for 100 years” is the phrase that accompanies the work and transformation that YW Calgary has fostered since 1910. The organization works to prevent, intervene, empower and provide leadership for the benefit of women and their families facing poverty and family violence. In 2019, YW Calgary proudly opened a new home in Inglewood, which marked its first new building in nearly 50 years and a major milestone in the YW’s century-long history.

YW Calgary has such a long history serving vulnerable women in Calgary; we were delighted when they moved into Inglewood back in 2019,” says Sal Howell, owner of Deane House. “It just seemed fitting that one of Calgary’s longest-standing organizations would plant itself in Calgary’s original neighbourhood. We launched Rosé and Croquet that year as a way of welcoming them to the community, and we’ve continued to do so as a way of celebrating the generosity and kindness of our neighbours and friends.”

The celebration blends two historic institutions with Deane House also being over 100 years old, in a fashionable and celebratory party that is returning for its third annual celebration, after hosting in 2019 and 2022.

The event brings together a vibrant outdoor garden soiree with wine-tasting stations, chef stations, live music, croquet games and prizes, a dance party and more. “Each year brings overwhelming generosity from community businesses and event partners,” says Howell. “Attendees love it, and we raise some valuable funds for programming at the YW Hub.”

This year, the magic and goodwill of the event returns once again on June 22. As in previous years, a portion of ticket sales and 100 per cent of auction and raffle proceeds go to YW Calgary. Attendees are welcome to graze the delicious selection of canapés from Deane House and River Café, explore chef stations throughout the gardens, enjoy premium rosé libations from Calgary’s top wine retailers and agents along with Tattinger Champagne, Gnu Gin, Reifel Rye Whiskey and local craft beer or sample drinks at the Prosecco Cart. Kick up your dancing feet with live music performances and a dance party with DJ Joanna Magik.

Dressing up is also part of the fun and spirit of the party, encourages Howell. Don your best garden party attire and fascinator or modern West outfit. Style your hat with flowers and rhinestones for a grand prize from the hat contest. Maxime’s will also host a Champagne Diamond Raffle for a chance to win a $10,000 Tacori diamond ring.

“Seeing the event come alive with our set-up and decorative partners, the peonies in bloom and the hats and dance party are my favourite moments from these events,” says Howell.
