Hungry for Something New? Try Taste the City, a Delicious, Digitally Guided Tasting Experience

Meet Calgary’s yummiest new startup, offering curated tastings of up to four restaurants in a single night.

Imagine spending an evening sampling some of the best food in the city without having to choose a restaurant, agonize over menu options or wait around for the bill.

With Taste the City, you can do just that. Founded by locals Joanna Pariseau and Melissa Boerger, this start-up offers a fresh new way to explore the city’s top restaurants, treat out-of-town guests to a sample of local flavours and even discover the hot restaurants in a new locale.

Pre-planned, prepaid, stress-free dining

Here’s how it works. Visit TastetheCity.ca and select a location to view available tasting options (there are currently nine in Calgary).

Next, select a date and time, add up to six participants, and specify any dietary restrictions or allergies. When your booking is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation text with the name and address of your first restaurant.

When you show up on the night of your tasting, everything is taken care of,  leaving you free to fully enjoy the experience. Each tasting dish is thoughtfully chosen by the restaurant, encouraging you to adventure out of your culinary comfort zone (and you might even discover some new favourites!). After 20 to 30 minutes, you’ll receive a text telling you the name and address of the next tasting location.

This mystery-date approach turns a basic night out into a culinary treasure hunt, ideal for spicing up special occasions or making a memorable midweek night out with friends. Best of all, each tasting is within easy walking distance, allowing you the perfect chance to explore your city on foot.

Restaurant raves

While tasters love the opportunity to discover their city’s hidden gems, restaurant owners are eating up this innovative way to wow first-time diners and keep them coming back for more.

By offering tastings, restaurants can showcase their best dishes, host more guests in an evening, and receive guaranteed payments with built-in gratuities — all without spending a dime.

Connecting diners with the passionate chefs who pour their hearts into every dish allows Taste the City to support local restaurants and the vibrant communities they serve.

After launching to rave reviews in Calgary in 2023, Taste the City is now live in Victoria and scheduled to launch in Toronto and Winnipeg in June. See what all the buzz is about.
