Whether you’re looking to get active, eat some great food or bring the youngsters down for story time, Deerfoot City is your destination in Calgary this summer. Here are three great events that should not be missed:
YYC Block Party
Block Party is back for the third summer, bringing the same vibrant energy to Deerfoot City with a new twist — an outdoor, retro-inspired roller skating rink on The Boulevard. Dig out your vintage roller skates or rent some wheels and live your best retro ‘70s’ summer life. The rink features a 215-foot road mural, unique hand-painted seating and 3D sculptures in collaboration with five local artist and Park Production House.
Stay and play — grab lunch from the Food Lodge, shop on The Boulevard and join in the entertain with lawn games, The Rec Room, iFly, fitness lessons and more. Be sure to check out adult-only Friday nights (twice per month) for the perfect date night with tunes from DJ Joash Charles.
The roller skating rink runs daily from July 1 – Sept. 30 during core hours. Deerfoot City is proud to donate all proceeds from skate rentals to Kids Up Front Calgary.
Stampede Breakfast
Shine up your cowboy boots, Calgary — Stampede Caravan is rolling through town and will be serving up a classic pancake breakfast July 14 from 9–11 a.m. Enjoy a free breakfast, then catch exciting performances on the Caravan stage, get your face painted or grab some special goodies from guest services.
Deerfoot City vendors are also ready to be part of the action. Try out the new virtual reality skydiving simulator from iFly, visit the Momentum Health booth for a massage and check out the team at GoodLife Fitness for a sweet giveaway.
Story Time
Join Deerfoot City every Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. for weekly story time in the Food Lodge’s Fireside Lounge. Enjoy an hour of stories and activities before fueling up with a tasty bite from one of several food vendors and then burn it off with endless fun in the play area.
This program is best suited for children ages two to five, however, all are welcome to enjoy for this family favourite, free, drop-in event. Stories and activities change weekly.
