Your Guide to the Best Summer Ice Cream Spots

It’s time to get out and enjoy the summer in Calgary and the surrounding area. There’s no shortage of fun activities and destinations to keep you entertained and safe this summer, and what better way to do that than with a scoop or two (or three) of ice cream? We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite spots to help you with your summer plans.

Explore North Glenmore Park 

The pathways along the Glenmore Reservoir are great for a scenic walk, bike ride, or picnic. Canoes are also available to rent through the Calgary Canoe Club. When you’re done, be sure to swing by My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe in Marda Loop.

WinSport – Canada Olympic Park

WinSport isn’t just for winter activities. It has mountain bike trails for all skill levels, an 18-hole mini golf course and downhill karting. After a fun-filled day at the park, head over to another My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe location at West 85th.

Elbow Falls

West of the Bragg Creek turnoff, you will be greeted by scenic waterfalls along the Elbow River, where there’s a short hiking trail that makes a great picnic spot. Afterwards, stop by either Frontier Candy & Ice Cream or Scoops & Snacks in Bragg Creek for a decadent dessert.

Heritage Parkway

Take a stroll on the Heritage Parkway that runs along the Sheep River in Okotoks, and while you’re there, grab an ice cream cone from the Big Dipper Ice Cream Shop.

Fishing Along the Sheep River

Sheep River runs right through Black Diamond and offers some great fishing. And, if you’re looking for a treat with a vintage diner experience, there’s no better spot than Marv’s Classic Soda Shop.

Sylvan Lake

Enjoy a day at the beach at Sylvan Lake, just 90 minutes north of Calgary. The Big Moo Ice Cream Parlor and More Moo at the south end of the lake are great spots to cool down with an ice cream treat.

Bomber Command Museum of Canada

The Bomber Command Museum of Canada is an aviation museum worth visiting in Nanton. Chain Lakes Provincial Park, a great spot for camping and fishing, is also nearby, and the Nanton Ice Cream Shop is the perfect spot for a treat afterwards.
