New Year’s Eve has arrived yet again. The night of celebrations, bottomless Champagne and doe-eyed resolution-making.

You probably have lots of options when it comes to party and soire invites, but before you start laying out your party dress and sipping cocktails, you might want to consider putting on those running shoes and heading to the 29th annual Resolution Run. This year it is December 31 at 6 p.m. Not sure why it’d be worth it? We’ll give you 6 reasons why it is.

Achieve Your Resolutions This Year

Everyone knows it’s harder to start that “run-once-a-day” New Year’s Resolution on January 1st when you’re suffering from the world’s worst hangover. With the Resolution Run, you’ll start 2014 off on the right foot. You’ll already have a run under your belt – you can achieve those health and fitness goals you know you’ll set for yourself (again). And those endorphins will make you feel so pumped, you’ll be ready to do it all over again the next day.

It’s Cheap to Enter

Think you already spent too much money on gifts or taxis or eggnog this holiday season? Think you don’t have the cash to spend on a race? If you haven’t already registered, know that it’s just $55 to sign up. That’s probably less than you already spent on fancy Christmas chocolates you didn’t really need.

(Also, we know that fancy New Year’s Eve event you’ve been eyeing is well over $80 – don’t play the money card.)

There’s Cool Race Swag

We’ll admit it: running through the snow when everyone else is opening the Veuve Clicquot takes mental courage. But put those appetizers, snacks and baked treats at the back of your mind, because the Resolution Run also hands out goodies. Run this race and you go home with some cool, limited-edition race swag. Your Brooks polyester jacket with a brushed interior and reflective logo will be coveted by everyone at the party you attend later.

The Event Starts Early

The race starts at the very reasonable hour of 6 p.m. And let’s be honest: you’re running 5km, not a marathon, so the race will be done and dusted before the appetizers are even on the table.

Impress Your Friends

Heading down to Eau Claire Market to run outside in the freezing December weather isn’t everyone’s ideal way to spend an evening. You’ll impress all your friends with your I’m-strong-enough-to-handle-this attitude. They might even buy you a drink later in the evening for your admirable effort. Bonus.

Have Fun

This isn’t one of those uber competitive races. This one is just for fun. Actually. There’s no official timing, so there’s no pressure. Think of the event as the pre-New Year’s Eve celebration.

The Resolution Run starts from the Eau Claire Market Running Room on December 31 at 6 p.m. Register online at resolutionrun.ca.
