9 New Things for Calgary Stampede 2019

Check out brand new shows that’ll make your heart race and new bar named for Stampede’s opening year.

Bar 1912

Opening up this Stampede in the Big Four Building, Bar 1912 will operate year-round. Offering a mixology-inspired chefs’ menu. Make sure to grab a spot to enjoy Bulls After Dark or Corb Lund with the Sheepdogs.

Bull After Dark

Get your boots ready for an after dark bull riding extravaganza, let the bull riders get your blood pumping while the music gets your body moving. Alberta band The Prairie States and Undrcard co-founder DJ Joanna Magik will be blasting music while the riders showcase freestyle bull riding skills.

The show are on Friday, July 12th and Saturday, July 13th at 10 p.m. in the Nutrien Western Event Centre.

DUNDU

Du is the German word for “you”. So, prepare to be amazed by these German-based giants light up the stage with masterful puppeteering and colour.

Light Balance

Watch this world-famous Ukrainian dance troupe light up the stage with their use of neon and LED lights attached to themselves. Let your imagination take you as you watch the colours and shapes of the dancers dazzle you.

The Market

Located in the BMO Centre, The Market has been around for a while now. This year, the space and attractions have been revamped. One of this year’s new add-ins is the Farmers Market, where for the first time, you can buy fresh produce. Head into The Market for some shopping, relaxation and fun for all ages. Hosting brand new vendors this year, like Manitoba Mukluks, Burton Maplewood Farm and Tree Picks. Head in to see CHROMA, a public art collective, featuring designs from local artists.

Make sure to check out the Palm Bay Hideaway, open for all ages, the relaxation zone (where you can indulge in a free 15-minute massage) and The Makery where you can DIY to your heart’s content.

Nik Wallenda: King of the High-Wire

Dare-devil Nik Wallenda and his family will make your heart race and stomach drop with their thrilling showcase of high-wire and acrobatics above the Stampede grounds. Watch the Wallendas grand finale as they ride a motorcycle on a high-wire while they perform their world-famous acrobatics.

Stranger Things on the Midway

Looking to head into the Upside Down? Check out the Stranger Things x Stampede collaboration. Enter the Hawkins Fun Fair where you can enter the world of Stranger Things without the messy consequences. Take a ride on the Spider, wander through the Stranger Things Funhouse or take a spin on the Giant Wheel to overlook the Fun Fair.

“Trailblazer” Grandstand Show

The Grandstand Show has been given a new interactive makeover. Patrons now get to use their smartphones to enhance their grandstand show experience. Show Master Onalea will guide you through the high energy show featuring 130 Young Canadians singers, acrobats and the Argentinean Malambo Gauchos Drummers.

Tickets range from $17 for standing room to $138 for front row seats. The show runs all 10 nights of Stampede, beginning at 7:45pm.

World Association of Marching Show Bands World Championship

Watch as teams from all around the world compete to be named the best showband in the world. Competitions take place July 6 to 8. You can get a sneak peek of some of the bands during the Stampede Parade on Friday, July 5.
