As you’re traveling around Calgary and Edmonton on public transit this month, you may be able to catch a quick movie on your journey.
The 10th annual Gotta Minute Film Festival is a special celebration of public art on public transit by Pattison Onestop and the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta. Throughout Calgary’s CTrain system and Edmonton Transit’s LRT system, a series of one-minute-long silent short films will run every five minutes on the overhead platform screens. You can also check out the full lineup online, inside the lobby of Edmonton’s Metro Cinema, at Edmonton’s public libraries and at participating Calgary public libraries (Central, Bowness, Crowfoot, Memorial Park, Seton, Shawnessy and Village Square).
These films are made for general audiences and are eligible for various awards including best animation film, best non-fiction film and best youth film.
The Gotta Minute Film Festival runs from September 11 to 24. The launch party and screening takes place on September 9 at Calgary’s Central Library. There will also be a full screening and artist talk on September 16 and an awards celebration on September 24 at Edmonton’s Stanley A. Milner Library.
[Note: A previous version of this story stated that the festival films could be watched at any Calgary public library. The story has been updated to show the participating branches.]
