When the blues calls your name, you gotta answer. And there’s something about the rolling thunder and smokestack lightning of gritty, swampy electric blues that speaks to the heart and moves the feet. Based in Lethbridge, Daryll Duus and his namesake quartet are veteran practitioners of the blue arts. Their classic guitars-bass-drums lineup is flavoured with the mournful howl of slide guitar and Mississippi Delta harmonica.

This is high-energy music that carefully blends covers and original tunes. It’s a lot of fun, with flavours of rockabilly, funk and rock ‘n’ roll – and it’ll be right at home on the Mikey’s Juke Joint stage.

DUUS is about to head out on a West Coast tour that will take the band all the way to Tofino, B.C., so it may be some time before another Calgary gig.
