Contemporary acoustic jazz meets the sweet sounds of classical chamber music on stage Monday at the University Theatre on the U of C campus.
The Hutchinson Andrew Trio and the Lily String Quartet will join forces to support the release of the trio’s new album, “Prairie Modern.” They’ll play a variety of music, including some new pieces written especially for the project.
“Our sound with the Lilys is unique,” says the trio’s bassist, Kodi Hutchinson. “You don’t normally get to hear this combination together, and the strings bring some quite different nuances to the music.”
The trio of Hutchinson, pianist Chris Andrew and drummer Karl Schwonik is a celebrated and popular fixture on the Canadian jazz scene. The Lily String Quartet – Andrea Case, Patricia Higgins, Diane Lane and Elisa Milner – is a top Canadian chamber ensemble. Together, it’s a combination that promises an evening of special music.
