Albertans looking for an easy getaway have a new, year-round resort option in Jasper National Park. Part of the burgeoning Pursuit Collection of mountain properties and experiences, the Forest Park Hotel is one of the first accommodations to open in Jasper in almost four decades. Formerly known as the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre, the new property combines the space of the former Sawridge Inn with a new build to make up one hotel.

The Forest Park Hotel was designed by award-winning firm Dialog (one of the companies behind the Calgary Central Library), with support from Lawson Projects and Johnston Builders. The new build is attached to the former Sawridge wing by a bridge and includes 88 “Alpine” rooms described as forest-inspired, with natural wood and stone accents, elevated finishes and expanded patios. Eighty of the Alpine rooms also have kitchenettes, for extended stays.

In the Sawridge wing, meanwhile, the “Woodland” rooms provide easy access to the hotel’s amenities, including the pool, day-spa, steam room and two on-site restaurants — Walter’s Dining Room (serving breakfast) and the Hearthstone Lounge (serving dinner).

Those who enjoy the ambiance of a cozy, mountain resort while dining will be happy to note that, despite the renovations and upgrades, the Sawridge’s massive indoor fireplace still resides in the centre of Walter’s Dining Room. The year-round resort also features unique and practical offerings like electric vehicle charging stations, ski storage, dog-friendly rooms and other amenities on-site to cater to a variety of travellers.

The Forest Park Hotel is set to be completed this month, and Woodland and Alpine rooms are now available for booking online.
