11 New Restaurants and Cafés That Opened in the Mountains in 2024

Check out these new spots in Banff, Canmore, Jasper and Radium Hot Springs for mountain dining experiences you won’t forget.

Banff Social

Head to Banff Social for a menu featuring global flavours with ingredients sourced from local farms and ranchers. The restaurant has a casual yet elevated vibe and dishes ranging from Alberta bison goulash with perogies to linguine al limone. Plus, in the warmer months, the streetside and second floor patios can’t be beat.

The Bro’Kin Yolk

This local breakfast chain is a go-to Calgary spot for delicious breakfast, and now, it has a new location in Canmore. You can get all your Bro’Kin Yolk favourites like eggs Benedict or a breakfast poutine, as well some Filipino-inspired breakfast dishes.

Electric Wolf

This neighbourhood café in Canmore is a great spot to grab a quick and delicious meal when you’re in a hurry. Electric Wolf serves locally sourced grab-and-go items inspired by sister restaurant Rhythm & Howl, like sandwiches and salads, as well as espresso-based coffee drinks, baked goods and more.

The Fat Ox

Creative Restaurants Group, the team behind Calgary’s Bonterra Trattoria and Posto Pizzeria & Bar, has opened a new Italian concept restaurant in Banff. At The Fat Ox, you can chow down on Italian cuisine with an “alpine twist,” with dishes like bison bolognese tagliatelle or winter bruschetta made with butternut squash instead of tomatoes. Warm up with a comforting plate of the restaurant’s hand-rolled pasta or enjoy a classic Italian-influenced cocktail with friends.

Good Folk

Located inside Banff’s Otter Hotel, Good Folk was one of the last new dining destinations to open this year. The seasonal menus feature dishes like an endive and little gem lettuce panzanella salad, Alberta bison tartare and an Alberta wild boar chop. The drink menu includes cocktails that riff on the classics with Alberta spirits, locally brewed Alberta beers and a good selection of wines by the glass or bottle.

Hankki Dessert

Calgary-based restaurant chain Hankki expanded to Banff in 2023, bringing its tasty Korean street food to the mountain town. In 2024, Hankki launched a new dessert concept out of this location, Hankki Dessert. From this new concept, you can order bingsoo, a Korean shaved ice dessert with a variety of toppings like strawberry, matcha, Oreo and more. Also only available in Banff is a menu of “ades” — try the mango hibiscus berry, muscat grape or strawberry butterfly flavours.

The Maligne Range

Originally scheduled to open just before the Jasper wildfires this past summer, The Maligne Range’s new kitchen is now open for business. Whisky lovers should head to this distillery and pub to try a fantastic range of Canadian whiskies, as well as a menu of smoked-in-house dishes to match (because nothing goes better with whisky than a good smoked brisket). Stop in to discover some brand new Canadian whisky and show your support for the Jasper community.

Steamboat Lounge & Forage and Steamboat Cafe

This new dining spot in Radium Hot Springs is home to both a restaurant and a café. In Steamboat Lounge & Forage, choose from a selection of flatbreads like smoked tomato and burrata, as well as small and sharing plates such as wild mushroom ravioli, smoked bison carpaccio or sablefish with beet risotto. There’s also a great selection of crafted cocktails, beer and wines. At Steamboat Cafe, you’ll find classic coffee and tea drink options and a variety of tasty sandwiches.

Located in Hotel Canoe and Suites, Sudden Sally is an upscale dining spot for elevated comfort food. Started by the team behind the popular Banff café Downtown Sally, this restaurant offers dishes like triple-cooked fries, smoked pork chop, mac and cheese with short rib or flatiron steak served with chimichurri. The restaurant also has an excellent happy hour.

Sushi Mitsuba Omakase

There’s a new place to experience Japanese omakase-style dining in Banff. At Sushi Mitsuba Omakase, there are three levels of dining menus to choose from, each including a number of appetizers, sashimi, nigiri and other dishes. Sake pairings are also available, if you choose.
