Strap on your skates! SkyCastle Entertainment, which has indoor playgrounds on Macleod Trail and on the upper level of New Horizon Mall, has just opened the next phase of the entertainment centre, the SkyCastle Roller Rink.
Until this year, Calgary hasn’t had a dedicated roller rink facility since the closure of Lloyd’s Recreation in 2018. A new roller rink called House of Skate opened in early 2024, and now, SkyCastle Roller Rink provides another great option for skaters in and around Calgary.
Located on the lower level of New Horizon Mall, the 10,000-square-foot roller rink features a fibre optic tree that shines on the smooth, cement rink and a separate rink area sectioned off for younger kids to skate. In addition to drop-in skating for adults and children, a skating instructor will host public and private skating lessons. More details on upcoming roller discos and theme nights will be released on the rink’s website soon. The facility is also available for event bookings.
Off the rink, there’s a licensed bar serving snacks like grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken wings, fries, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There are also a variety of arcade games in the facility.
Roller rink entrance tickets also include entry to the SkyCastle playground in New Horizon Mall, and vice versa. Guests can bring their own skates, or visit the rental area to rent inline skates, quad skates or equipment for an additional cost. And if you’re a non-skater who just wants to cheer their friends and family on, that’s no problem. Admission fees only apply to those wishing to skate, so you can still access the bar and arcade area without paying an entry fee.
