You can stay local or take a short trip to the Rockies for runs with a mountain view. Some events are about fun and energy, while others support important causes. All offer a reason to spend the day on the move.

Distance: 2 km kids run, 5 km, 10 km, half marathon
What you should know: Founded in 2017 by the Airdrie community, this run raises funds for North Rocky View Community Links Society to support services for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence. The starting line is at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park.
Mother’s Day Run
When and where: May 10, 2026 in Calgary
Distance: Kids race, 5 km run/walk, 10 km
What you should know: For nearly five decades, this has been one of Calgary’s largest family-friendly fundraising events, supporting Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and the Calgary Health Foundation. After the race, which takes off from CF Chinook Centre, stick around to enjoy snacks, photo ops and interactive activations.

Canmore Sunset Run
When and where: May 16, 2026 in Canmore
Distance: 5 km, 10 km
What you should know: Organized by Rnest Endurance, the Canmore Sunset Run lives up to its name with an 8 p.m. start, timed to capture the “magic hour” in the alpenglow from one of the valley’s best vantage points. Set aside personal bests, slow down and take in the Rocky Mountain views, capped off with a Crave cupcake at the finish line.
The Women’s Soap Run
When and where: May 22 to 24, 2026 in Canmore
Distance: 5 km stroller jog, 5 km run/walk, 10 km run/walk, half marathon
What you should know: Launched by Canmore-based skincare company Rocky (formerly Rocky Mountain Soap) in 2008 to create a safe and inclusive space for women, this event now attracts thousands of participants and supports the Girls Forward Foundation. Registrants will receive $50 in Rocky products, a custom t-shirt/run socks and enjoy a post-race reception.
Servus Calgary Marathon
When and where: May 23 and 24, 2026 in Calgary
Distance: Diaper dash, kids race, 5 km run/walk, 10 km run/walk, 21.1 km run/walk, 42.2 km run/walk, virtual
What you should know: Canada’s longest-running marathon weekend offers a range of distances, attracting runners from around the world. Routes wind through the city centre and along the Bow River, offering a scenic way to experience Calgary. Participants can fundraise for more than 100 charities. All registrants receive a t-shirt, a finisher medal and training plans courtesy of ASICS Runkeeper.
