The winter season just isn’t the same without a holiday flick or two. Here’s where you can catch a festive film screening this December.

For many, a big part of the holiday season involves watching nostalgic or new festive films. Whether you like movies that capture all-out holiday fun like Elf or ones that are more loosely related to Christmas (ahem, Die Hard), here are a few places to check out your favourite holiday flicks on the big screen in Calgary in December.

Festive Flicks at The Plaza

The Plaza is running Festive Flicks, a series of holiday favourites, all December long. Catch the 20th anniversary editions of Love Actually and Elf, as well as showings of Die Hard and Home Alone. Check out all of these films at various showtimes until December 24. While you’re there, grab a drink from The Plaza’s Sidebar (you can bring drinks inside the theatre while your movie plays) and some snacks from the café.

Holiday Movie Sundays at The Attic

The Attic is getting in the holiday spirit with Holiday Movie Sundays at 5 p.m. on three Sundays leading up to Christmas. Catch Christmas With the Kranks on December 3, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on December 10, and Christmas classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas on December 17. Tickets aren’t required, but reservations are recommended. The Attic’s Sunday happy hour runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (perfect timing for these holiday screenings) with deals on regular cocktails, wine and Last Best beers, as well as special holiday cocktails for $9. Afterwards, stay for some stand-up comedy at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 and include popcorn, with additional snacks and beverages available for purchase.
