Zehaan Walji believes we can do better when it comes to emergency health care. At the University of Calgary, he started a medical Multi-Agent System research project — an AI system that generates a blueprint of medical solutions for users, in much the same way as ChatGPT generates responses to prompts.
If successful, this project could help mitigate the effects of an accident before first responders get to a patient, save someone a trip to the hospital or ease emergency overflow for health-care professionals.
The initiative was piloted at Ward of the 21st Century, a health-care systems research and innovation centre based in UCalgary’s O’Brien Institute for Public Health and the Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services. “I got a lot of exposure on the ground to see what patients and different people have to deal with,” he says.
