Avenue’s Top 40 Under 40 presented in association with the University of Calgary recognizes dozens of young Calgarians whose work, research and volunteer efforts help make Calgary great. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Top 40 celebration was held virtually, allowing inductees, friends, family and all Calgarians to mark the occasion safely from home.
Prior to the virtual event, this year’s Top 40 class received a “party in a box” from Avenue and the Top 40 sponsors to help make their at-home celebrations extra special. The box of goodies included a bottle of Taittinger Champagne from Osler for a Champagne toast, a course credit from the University of Calgary, a complimentary membership to The Ranchmen’s Club courtesy of The Ranchmen’s Club, a bottle of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, a recipe card and River Café gift certificate from Woodford Reserve, a Lamose travel mug, a plaque and photo props.
There were also snacks sourced from local businesses owned by past Top 40 Under 40 winners, including charcuterie from Our Daily Brett, macarons from Yann Haute Patisserie and Rosso Coffee Roasters coffee.
The virtual celebration featured congratulatory messages from several previous Top 40 Under 40 inductees, including actor Andrew Phung and mayor Naheed Nenshi. There were also presentations from Avenue editor-in-chief Käthe Lemon, Redpoint Media & Marketing Solutions president and CEO Pete Graves, and Anila Umar Lee Yuen, a member of the Top 40 Under 40 class of 2017 and a University of Calgary alumnus.
Global Calgary‘s Dallas Flexhaug was the event’s master of ceremonies and presented the Top 40 Under 40 class of 2020.
Thank you to the 2020 Top 40 Under 40s, our sponsors and everyone who tuned in to the online celebration and helped make this special evening a success.
