Earlier this year, Australian millionaire Tim Gurner made headlines when he said that $19 avocado toast purchases are the reason that millennials don't have enough savings to buy a house of their own.

Needless to say, we don't think this is the reason. We also feel that this puts one of our favourite breakfast and brunch staples in an unflattering and expensive light that simply isn't fair.

So for those of you who have obviously given up on ever purchasing a house, here are 16 places you can get avocado toast in Calgary. All of them are less than $19.

Ace Coffee + Diner

Located in West Springs, the avocado toast at Ace Coffee & Diner ($11.75) features toasted sourdough baguette topped with smashed avocado, a poached egg, oven-dried tomatoes, sea salt and balsamic artisan greens.

125, 20 Westpark Link S.W., 403-475-1788, acediner.ca

Bridgette Bar

If you're tired of the usual avocado toast toppings, Bridgette Bar offers something a bit different. Its toast comes with avocado, zucchini and curried sunflower on top of sourdough bread ($11).

739 10 Ave. S.W., 403-700-0191, bridgettebar.com

The Bro'Kin Yolk

This popular breakfast and brunch spot, which is opening a second location in Mahogany soon, offers an open face avocado sandwich ($14).

This is not your average avocado toast. Once you've ordered your Swiss light rye bread topped with avocado, sauteed kale, caramelized onions and grilled zucchini ($15), you can also add a meaty topping like beef brisket, bacon, chicken sausage, fried porchetta or bacon for an extra $3. That's not all though — the dish also comes with poached eggs, hollandaise and hash browns.

319 19 St. N.W., 403-283-2497, dairylanecafe.ca

Earls

Earls' avocado super toast ($11.50) is available at Earls Bankers Hall, Earls Barlow Trail, Earls Tin Palace, Earls Dalhousie, Earls Shepard Flats and Earls Willow Park. It's technically on the menu as a sharing dish, but let's be real — we all know you're not going to share.

Jusu Bar

At Jusu Bar, you can get all-organic avocado toast to go with your cold-pressed juice. The juice bar uses gluten-free toast and adds avocado, vegan almond parmesan cheese and purple cabbage sprouts.
