6 Restaurants Where You Can Get Your Game On

Feed your craving for bison, elk, boar and more

Find wild boar on the menu at The Lake House.

Game meats are often lean (think rabbit and elk), flavourful (like duck and boar) and definitely tasty. Lucky for us Calgary’s restaurant scene is very game-friendly. Here are six of our favourite places to get your game on.

Bonterra Trattoria

This classic Italian restaurant offers a breaded rabbit dish with polenta bread pudding and incorporates game into its pasta dishes, such as linguini with wild boar bacon. It’s the perfect spot for diners newer to the game scene.

(1016 8 St. S.W., 403-262-8480, bonterra.ca)

The Belvedere

The Belvedere offers a variety of tasty game dishes such as venison, bison and duck. The trio of tartare starter is a real highlight and includes bison, beef and venison with egg confit.

(107 8 Ave. S.W., 403-265-9595, thebelvedere.ca)

Gaucho Brazilian Barbecue

Throughout the month of October on Tuesday and Wednesday nights Gaucho’s Got Game event features game, think quail, rabbit, bison, elk and more, on the grill. Try it all.

(100 5920 Macleod Tr. S.W., 403-454-9119, brazilianbbq.ca)

The Lake House

This CRMR property on Lake Bonavista is a game-lovers paradise. Find crispy duck confit, slow roasted wild boar shoulder and seared wild northern caribou and bison cross ribs.

Open Range

Craving a grilled bison burger, apricot glazed wild boar or local elk with organic cream? Then head to Open Range for its meaty menu offerings. Find game across its menu, from appetizers to mains.

(1114 Edmonton Tr. N.E., 403-277-3408, open-range.ca)

River Caf

River Caf’s natural setting on Prince’s Island Park means you could almost imagine the tasty hog tenderloin on your plate was caught nearby. Also find several bison dishes and a variety of tastes on its fish and game board appetizer.
