Makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur Tara Cowles has made a career of showing others how to look fabulous, and as director of the Artists Within Makeup Academy and the AW03 Maquillage product line, she leads by example. Always impeccably put together with her bi-weekly blow outs and fabulous head-to-toe wardrobe, Cowles certainly knows how to make an entrance. “My outfits always have a wow factor,” she says. “I’m not a wallflower.”
That confidence to turn heads is something she says she grew into as she figured herself out over the years. Her favourite designers — Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli and Gucci — are those that design for her curves. (“I should have been born Italian,” she says.) Whatever she’s wearing, you can bet it will be paired with a sky-high heel and unabashedly high-maintenance hair and makeup, but even more so, you can count on her 100-per cent owning her look. “I don’t feel like I have to follow what’s happening, style wise,” she says. “I know what I like, what works for me and I don’t mind expressing who I am. I have no fear of that at all.”
