Cookie Dough YYC Brings Edible Raw Cookie Dough to Calgary

The team behind Family Squeezed Lemonade, Family Freezed Gourmet Ice Pops and Beaver Balls are launching a new treat.

Many of us can probably remember making cookies with our parents as children. You’d mix together the ingredients, add toppings like chocolate chips or raisins and then try and sneak a mouthful of raw dough before plopping spoonfuls of it onto the cookie tray.

Of course, you may also remember having your hand swatted away from the raw dough for fear of getting salmonella.

Thankfully, the team behind Family Squeezed Lemonade, Family Freezed Gourmet Ice Pops and Beaver Balls has come up with a way for us to have our cookie dough and eat it too. On Friday, February 24, they’re launching Cookie Dough YYC, which will offer edible, raw cookie dough out of the Family Squeezed Lemonade location in the Food Hall at CrossIron Mills. The dough is made using pasteurized eggs and heat-treated flour so that it’s safe to eat raw, and can be scooped up just like ice cream. The six-ounce cups of cookie dough will be sold for $6.

“We’re always looking for what the best treat is. My mantra has always been that it’s the old fashioned, tried-and-true things that are the best, and then we try to elevate them,” says co-owner Jennifer Andrews.

Cookie Dough YYC is opening with four flavours: classic chocolate chip (with classic batter and chocolate chips), chocolate chunk brownie batter (with chocolate chunks and chocolate chips), peanut butter cup (with Reese’s Pieces and chunks of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups) and sugar cookie (with sugar cookie batter and rainbow sprinkles). They will eventually offer more than four flavours at once at the mall location, as well as some vegan and gluten-free options.

In total, they’ve created around 18 different cookie dough flavours, which will be rotated into the line-up. Future flavours include butterscotch, Mini Eggs, red velvet Oreo, Rolo, snickerdoodle and “Unicorn” (featuring a sugar cookie base, rainbow-themed candy, rainbow sprinkles and marshmallows).

According to Andrews, whose favourite flavour is the chocolate chunk brownie batter, the team’s method of creating and testing flavours with their family was simple: “If we don’t love it, we don’t do it. And that’s honestly been our mantra since day one.”
