Acai is a Brazilian fruit known for its antioxidant properties, fibre content and vitamin profile. Plus, it’s just delicious.
Acai bowls, which are like a cross between sorbet, smoothies and porridge, are a great way to enjoy the fruit. Made with a base of frozen, blended acai berries, the bowls are then topped or layered with other ingredients like granola, cacao nibs, various fruits, nuts and more.
While many cafés and breakfast spots offer an acai bowl on their menu, Calgary has also seen a rise in restaurants largely dedicated to the berry open within the last few years. Here are just a few of the spots you can find acai bowls in the city.

This Brazilian chain has over 600 locations worldwide. It opened its first permanent brick-and-mortar Calgary location in 2023 and now has four locations in the city. Stop by for acai bowls, acai smoothies and acai-based snacks like bars and energy balls. Try one of the signature bowls with unlimited toppings like granola, crispy quinoa, fruits, chia pudding, peanut butter, nuts and more. For smoothies, Oakberry of course offers a plain acai version, as well as some very aesthetically layered ones with ingredients like banana and blue spirulina, passionfruit and mango, or matcha.
