One of five new dining concepts that opened recently at the base of The Oliver apartment complex, Fleetwood Lounge is a cozy new cocktail spot with a modern yet vintage design — the perfect combination for a great night out.
Fleetwood was named after the 1933 Cadillac Fleetwood that’s on display in the lobby of The Oliver, and the lounge’s decor nods to the rare car, as well. The lights above the bar, for instance, are meant to imitate the car’s headlights, and the blue suede seating brings in a touch of 1930s flair.
Fleetwood features a fun menu of classic, modernized or alcohol-free cocktails, plus an easily shareable snack menu. Under the direction of Fleetwood Group’s bar manager Tiffanie Hensel, cocktails on the menu range from mainstays like the 33 Margarita to house specialties like Keep the Doctor Away, with pear vodka, green chartreuse, Granny Smith apple juice, lime juice and honey ice. The bar also has a cocktail called the Gin & Tonic Project, made with craft tonic and rotating house-infused gins.
For more of a show, try one of the “smashes” — either an old fashioned or a Negroni that’s served inside a hollow ice-cube sphere and smashed tableside. Or, if you like Caesars, opt for Fleetwood’s build-your-own version. Called the Meta Caesar, it’s created with house-made Clamato juice and your choice of spirits, flavoured ice cubes and garnish.
There’s also an extensive, rotating wine list, available on request.
After a few cocktails, everyone could use a little snack. Polenta fries with three-cheese fondue dip are a filling and tasty option at Fleetwood, or you can share the charcuterie board with house-made bread. More substantial menu options include grilled lamb chop “lollipops” and chicken parmesan sliders.
