A handful of new coffee shops have recently opened in Calgary, adding to the growing number of small businesses popping up around the city for you to get your morning caffeine fix.
Deville Coffee

Deville Coffee recently opened a new location on 17 Ave. S.W., taking over part of a former old Tim Hortons building that will also house La Diperie and South St. Burger soon. Deville uses direct trade coffee beans that are roasted in small batches to allow for the highest quality coffee. It also serves baked goods sourced from local bakeries around Calgary.

Higher Ground

In August, Higher Ground opened its third location on 17 Ave. S.W. in a former Starbucks space. Established in 1982, Higher Ground focuses on providing fair-trade, organic and environmentally friendly coffee and tea. Its new location features a huge mural wall created by Alexus Coates, as well as a fireplace to cozy up beside during the fast-approaching winter. The coffee shop also serves house-made baked goods if you’re looking for a snack.

Monogram Coffee

Open in the trendy University District since June, Monogram’s new fourth location features both communal and private seating in a beautiful wood- and brick-filled space by Fort Architecture. The coffee shop also offers slushy drinks that are exclusively available at this new location.

Operating out of a red house in Inglewood since July, Good News is a coffee shop that also dishes out soft serve, so an affogato (espresso and ice cream) is a must-try here. Look for the feature sundae flavours to accompany your classic cappuccino from this neighbourhood spot.
