Buon Giorno

This Italian institution has been around for almost 40 years. It recently moved down the street to a new location, but is still serving the classic dishes Calgarians have come to know and love. The new 17th Avenue S.W. patio is updated, yet maintains the restaurant’s early ’80s Italian flair.

Calcutta Cricket Club

Calcutta Cricket Club recently moved locations from 17th Avenue S.W. to 1st Street S.W., gaining two new patios in the process. The first is located in front of the restaurant, and there’s another “secret” covered patio out back with a more peaceful atmosphere. All the CCC deliciousness is still on the menu since the move, and the restaurant has some great happy hour and lunchtime deals if you’re looking for a mid-day reprieve.

Class Clown Hamburgers

If two things scream summer, it’s burgers and sunshine — now you can get both at Class Clown. The Mission burger joint has launched a small patio with high-top tables along the south side of the restaurant. Make plans to dive into some burgers and bowls of Coney fries here soon.

Cloud Naan

This chain of restaurants from Pakistan opened its first Calgary location last winter, and now has a summer patio just off 17th Avenue S.W. Soak up the sun while you enjoy fresh-baked naan featuring creamy chicken tikka or beef kabab with traditional Pakistani spices, as well as fusion flavours like Philly cheesesteak or pesto chicken. There are even dessert versions like banana caramel or Nutella Oreo.

Cold Beer & Pizza

This new restaurant on 17th Avenue S.W. has a west- and south-facing patio, perfect for lounging in the sun with a cold beer and a slice of Roman-style pizza. The patio has both covered and uncovered sections, which helps if the weather turns during your visit.

Connie & John’s Rooftop

Connie & John’s Pizza has opened its first dine-in location, and it’s worth the wait. Located on the rooftop of the Simmons Building, this patio has incredible panoramic views of the Bow River and downtown Calgary. Of course, you can get excellent New York- and Detroit-style pizza, but the menu also includes raw bar options of oysters, tuna ceviche and scallop crudo. This rooftop also has a great selection of local beer, wines and cocktails. Plan your visit carefully, as this rooftop patio is weather dependent.

Korilla Korean BBQ

The team behind Hankki opened Korilla Korean BBQ last winter, bringing a fresh take on high-quality, traditional Korean barbecue to Calgary. Now that summer is here, you can get the same great experience on the restaurant’s rooftop patio, known as OKTOP Korean Rooftop Bar. With grills at the centre of every table on the patio, this patio feels like the best backyard barbecue you’ve ever been to.
