Do you love the chewy pearls of a milky and refreshing bubble tea? Do you have a major sweet tooth? Then this is the festival for you.

The Crescent Heights Village BIA, International Avenue BRZ and Chinatown BIA have teamed up to present the YYC Bubble Tea and Asian Dessert Festival, which brings together bubble tea cafés and Asian dessert spots from around Calgary to compete for the best sweet treat. From August 17 to September 1, the public can vote for their favourite participating eateries, and a final event on September 7 will have celebrity judges choosing their favourite dessert or drink from the public’s top five.

The full list of 2024 participants is still to be released, but past winners include Xing Fu Tang’s brown sugar boba milk, Koi Fresh Fruits & Tea with a mango pomelo sago with coconut milk, and JusFruit with a summer berry blend bubble tea. There’s no shortage of great bubble tea and Asian dessert shops around Calgary, so don’t miss the chance to try this year’s featured treats.
