Calgarians like to have a good time — especially with our many fun fall events, like weekly bingo and trivia nights, and patios for the last of the warm days, where we enjoy some bevvies under our big blue sky. The Best Bar None (BBN) program allows us to have all the fun with peace of mind.
BBN is an accreditation program through Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) that recognizes bars and entertainment venues committed to patron safety and responsible liquor service. BBN venues have special measures in place to create a safer and more welcoming environment by reducing liquor-related harms. Real-time examples include Cowboys Dance Hall randomly testing unattended drinks, Greta Bar training its staff to recognize and prevent sexual violence and Watchman’s Pub & Eatery eliminating all glassware. BBN venues may also offer drink covers and advanced ID scanners, and ensure safe transportation home for patrons who may be vulnerable.
“Safety is non-negotiable in the modern era, and the Best Bar None program helps ensure that you are spending your money in businesses that are committed to keeping you and your friends safe,” says Kandice Machado, CEO, AGLC.
Sometimes, choosing where to go out is the tough part. The Best Bar Finder makes that a little bit easier. The online finder tool features all of Alberta’s 242 BBN venues — choosing a venue on the finder guarantees the bar you visit has your back. Plus, filter options allow you to discover venues with special entertainment features such as live music, pool tables and karaoke, and whether it has a patio and late-night eats.
Let your hair down. And let yourself create new connections and memories, knowing the venue you’ve chosen upholds a commitment to raising the standard of safety.
