Contrary to popular belief, the films nominated for Oscars are more than just feature length films featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. Behind the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood blockbuster nominations, there are also several categories highlighting notable short films, and for the past five years, Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) has celebrated the hard work and dedication that goes into making them. This year at Globe Cinema, you can catch all of the short films nominated for a 2024 Oscar (15 of which screened at CIFF’s last festival).
From February 16 to 18, catch one of the six screenings featuring three different shorts categories: live action, animation and documentary short films (there are two screenings for each category). This year’s films include notable flicks like Ninety-five Senses (directed by Jerusha Hess and Jared Hess), Nai Nai & Wa Po (directed by Sean Wang and Sam Davis), and The Last Repair Shop (directed by Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers), which premiered at CIFF 2023 and won the Best Documentary Short Film Award.
Cinema-goers can view the films by purchasing ticket packages for a single category ($17) or by purchasing a three-show pass ($40) to see them all.
Check the CIFF website for a full list of all the films and showtimes, and start making your Oscar predictions early.
