How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Calgary

St. Patrick’s Day is back on March 17, and while there will be the typical pub deals and celebrations around the city, finding something to do outside of visiting a bar can be a bit harder. From a St. Patrick’s beer walk and mural tour to an Irish whisky tasting, here are a few events happening in Calgary that will take your St. Patrick’s Day weekend celebrations to the next level.

 

Calgary Roughnecks St. Patrick’s Day Party

Calgary’s lacrosse team has a home game over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend and is pulling out all the stops to mark the occasion. At the game on March 15, expect specialty themed jerseys, giveaways, a halftime show featuring LowTide, games and more.

St. Patrick’s Beer Walk and Mural Tour

Calgary’s BUMP Festival recently launched year-round mural tours, and the team is offering a special tour experience on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. This three-hour guided tour on March 16 will not only show you more than 20 BUMP murals, but you can also grab a discounted drink at three pubs along the way. Tickets are $20.

Irish Whiskey Excursion at Willow Park Wines & Spirits

On March 16, Willow Park Wines & Spirits offers a deep dive into Irish whiskys with several Irish malt tastings, snacks, information on Irish distilleries and more. Tickets for the event are $50 and it runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The Original St. Patrick’s Day Road Race

This outdoor road race has been going strong for more than three decades, and you can take part in this year’s edition on March 17. Don some green running gear and choose between a five-kilometre or 10-kilometre run that starts and ends at Central Memorial High School. The race supports Calgary Road Runners and Diabetes Canada.

St. Patrick’s Day-Themed Brunch at The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is turning its weekly Safari Sunday Brunch experience into a St. Patrick’s Day-themed brunch on March 17. The menu features themed dishes like maple Irish whisky glazed ham and peppermint green cheesecake, along with classic brunch favourites like Belgian waffles and eggs Benedict. Guests can choose from three seating times.
