The team behind Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters have opened a new eatery that doubles as a doughnut shop called Hoopla Donuts and a new Phil & Sebastian cafe. Located downtown in the Calgary Place building, the McKinley Burkart-designed space seats around 30 people and is already garnering line-ups of eager doughnut fans.
Phil & Sebastian head chef Leslie Morrow is behind the brioche-based doughnuts, which come in creative flavours like London Fog, passionfruit, crème brûlée, honey glaze, snickerdoodle, s’more, double almond and more. Some of the flavours feature cool local collaborations — the cider glazed fritter is made with cider from Uncommon Cider, while the strawberry gin jam doughnut is made with gin from Burwood Distillery. The selection includes a few vegan doughnuts and some baked gluten-free doughnuts. The doughnuts are available individually and in batches of a half dozen or full dozen.
In addition to Phil & Sebastian coffee, the eatery also serves some all-day breakfast items like toast and avocado, egg sandwiches, chia pudding and more. So whether you’re looking to start your day with something sweet or savoury, this new spot has you covered.
